The Vespucci Initiative for the Advancement of Geographic Information Science is announcing the 10th Annual Summer Institute on Geographic Information Science in Florence, Italy, 2012.

The first week's (June 3 to 9, 2012) topic is "Interoperability 360". Facilitators for this week are: Harlan Onsrud, Ioannis  Kanellopoulos, Stefano Nativi, Max Craglia, Michael Gould and Werner Kuhn.

The second week (July 1 to 7, 2012) will give attention to the relevance of "Spatial Information in Science and Society". After ten successful years of Vespucci Institutes, the initiative invites all alumni for free and newcomers with a 50% discount on the regular rate to join us in exploring the growing role of spatial information in the sciences and in society at large. Facilitators are: Cristina Capineri, Max Craglia, Michael Gould and Werner Kuhn.

Institut für Geoinformatik wird "Ort im Land der Ideen"

Das ifgi ist "Ausgewählter Ort 2012 im Land der Ideen"

Das Team von "GI@School" wurde erneut für sein Engagement belohnt: Dank ihnen wurde das Institut für Geoinformatik zum "Ausgewählten Ort 2012 im Land der Ideen" gekürt. Damit gehört es zu den Siegern des bundesweiten Wettbewerbs "365 Orte im Land der Ideen". Die Auszeichnung wird am 11. September an der Universität Münster im Rahmen einer kleinen Feierstunde überreicht.

"365 Orte im Land der Ideen" wird von der Standortinitiative "Deutschland – Land der Ideen" in Kooperation mit der Deutschen Bank durchgeführt. Unter der Schirmherrschaft von Bundespräsident Christian Wulff rückt der Wettbewerb ausgewählte Projekte in den Mittelpunkt, die die Zukunft Deutschlands aktiv gestalten. Für das Jahr 2012 hat eine Expertenjury aus Wissenschaftlern, Wirtschaftsmanagern, Journalisten und Politikern "GI@School" aus insgesamt über 2000 Bewerbungen für die Kategorie Bildung ausgewählt. "GI@School" vermittle Wissen, das für die Entwicklung der Gesellschaft von großem Interesse sei, jedoch nicht in den Lehrplänen stehe, so die Standortinitiative.

GI Zeitgeist 2012 - Young researchers forum on Geographic Information Science

March 16-17, 2012, Muenster, Germany

GI Zeitgeist 2012 will be a conference for young researchers worldwide to get together and present their work in the field of Geographic Information Science. It will be a forum for researchers from diverse disciplines such as computer science, geography, cognitive science, mathematics, environmental science and artificial intelligence working on related topics to interact and find possibilities for collaboration.

Authors are invited to submit original research, not being considered for publication elsewhere. Short papers (max 1500 words) can be submitted to present visionary ideas, work in progress and preliminary research results, whereas full papers (max 5000 words, and not more than 10 pages) should present substantial results. All papers will be reviewed by at least two members of the scientific committee and all accepted papers will be presented at the conference. Full papers will be published in the IfGI Prints series (with ISBN) by the Akademische Verlagsgesellschaft AKA GmbH, Heidelberg. The authors of the best full papers will be invited to submit extended versions of their work for a special issue in a geographic information science journal.
