The Institute for Geoinformatics

1. strengthens its position as one of the world’s leading research institutes in Geoinformatics (or Geographic Information Science), qualitatively as well as quantitatively;
2. addresses societal, economical, and ecological challenges in its research areas of spatio-temporal modeling and environmental measurement, spatial intelligence, semantic interoperability, situated interaction and sensor web and geoprocessing;
3. spawns highly motivated, qualified, and proactive graduates with excellent career chances through a first class education;
4. entertains a motivating, tolerant, international, cooperative, effective and well-equipped working environment for staff members and students.;
   
5. provides its know-how to society, e.g., in schools and through open source developments;
