My current research interest is Smart Digital Signage. I work on Digital Signage systems that can automatically select the best content for Digital Signage. The signs measure their effectiveness using eye tracking, coupons, and interaction data. Then they employ machine learning mechanisms to determine how well certain information works in a certain context. We currently use two deployments. Mobidic is a system of 20 digital signs that distribute coupons in the city center of Münster, Germany. iDisplays is a information system of 7 digital signs at the University of Münster, which shows information that is interesting for students. More generally, I am interested in building cognitive tools. This includes the fields of computer science, cognitive science, artificial intelligence, ubiquitious computing, human computer interaction and augmented cognition.
In the past I worked on cognitive tools for Mind Mapping (FreeMind), searching Music, learning Math with Concept Maps and adapting cars to the cognitive workload of the driver.
